Schools have right to charge third term fees

Schools have right to charge third term fees – August 4, 2020.   The Federal Government has said that private school owners are entitled to charge fees for the third term as schools start resuming for exit classes. The Minister of State for Education, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said this at the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday. Nwajiuba was reacting to a question on if it was proper for private schools to charge a third term fee since the period the exit students would spend in school was short. He said that private school owners were running a business venture and not a charity organisation. The Minister said: “For public institutions, we can’t tell you that we charge school fees, as most of our schools are free. Public schools are free and vary from state to state. “But when you go into a contractual relationship with a school owner, a school owner is a passionate person but is also a business person. School reopening: Edo state government speaks.

School reopening: Edo state government speaks. The Edo State Government has announced that public and private schools in the state will resume on Tuesday, August 4, 2020,  for SS3 students in line with Federal Government directives. The Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the WAEC-WASSCE due to start on the 17th of August,2020.           Third term resumption date. The Edo State Government is yet to announce an official resumption date for third (3rd) term academic activities for 2019/2020 academic session. The Edo State Government has also has warned that any school both public and private in the state that re-opened for the 3rd term 2019/2020 school year either in schools environment or online before it authorizes that will have its license withdrawn and prosecuted.

ONDO GOVERNMENT URGES SCHOOLS TO ADHERE TO COVID-19 PROTOCOLS Ondo State Government has said any school that refuses to adhere to precautionary measures against Coronavirus (COVID-19), during this period of temporary re-opening, will be closed down. The Chairman, Ondo State Inter-ministerial Committee on Coronavirus, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi who stated this in Akure noted that the resumption is meant to enable graduating students write their examinations. He added that all Heads of Schools must ensure that they strictly follow the public health measures against COVID-19 as already stated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the circular to all schools. As such, no school official, staff, student or any other person without a facemask should be allowed into the school compound, while masks must be worn properly and throughout all school activities.
